DLSA Srinagar Conducts Awareness Drive on J&K Road Safety Policy 2025

A special awareness program, held in collaboration with traffic authorities, aimed to educate commuters on safe driving practices, legal provisions, and the objectives of the J&K Road Safety Policy 2025.

February 12, Srinagar: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with the Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic Srinagar, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic Srinagar, and the Kashmir Road Safety Foundation, conducted a special awareness drive throughout the district to inform the public about the objectives and implementation of the J&K Road Safety Policy 2025.

The program aimed to educate commuters, drivers, pedestrians, transport operators, and shopkeepers about traffic discipline, safe driving practices, and the legal consequences of traffic violations. Informational materials were distributed, and on-the-spot interactions were held to emphasize the importance of responsible road usage.

The program was attended by Mr. Haq Nawaz Zargar (Chairman, District Legal Services Authority – Principal District and Sessions Judge), Mr. Shabir Ahmad Malik (Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic Srinagar), Ms. Mufti Nahida (Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic Srinagar), Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (SSP Traffic City Srinagar – IPS), Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Bhat (DySP Lalchowk), officials from the DLSA Srinagar, representatives from NGOs, members of the legal fraternity, and members of the public.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Zargar emphasized that the J&K Road Safety Policy 2025 focuses on minimizing road accident fatalities through strict enforcement of traffic laws, the mandatory use of helmets and seat belts, the prevention of speeding and drunk driving, scientific road engineering measures, the identification and rectification of accident-prone zones, and the strengthening of emergency medical response systems. He stressed that road safety is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to cooperate with enforcement agencies to promote discipline on roads.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Malik highlighted the vital role of legal awareness in preventing road accidents and promoting responsible civic behavior. He emphasized the need for sustained public outreach programs to ensure better compliance with traffic laws.

Mr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (SSP Traffic City Srinagar) stated that a significant number of road accident cases are linked to substance abuse and called for greater public awareness and strict adherence to traffic norms.

During the drive, Ms. Mufti Nahida interacted with locals and drivers, addressing their concerns. Ms. Tabassum Qadir Parray (Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Srinagar) reiterated the commitment of the DLSA Srinagar to make roads safer and assured commercial drivers that necessary measures would be taken to ensure smoother traffic management.

The program witnessed active participation from traffic officials, volunteers, and drivers, reflecting a shared commitment towards safer roads in Srinagar.
