Puducherry, February 12 The Puducherry Assembly passed the Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill through a voice vote on Thursday, allocating ₹5,396 crore for the first five months of the next fiscal year, 2026-27, to ensure that government departments can meet their expenses. The bill was introduced by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who also holds the Finance portfolio. As the Union Territory is expected to go to assembly elections soon, a full budget could not be passed in the House. The assembly adjourned sine die after completing the scheduled business. The session lasted for two and a half hours on Thursday. Speaker R. Selvam, who had earlier referred to the passing of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar through an obituary reference, also referred to the death of former Judge of the Madras High Court, David Annousamy (from the Union Territory of Puducherry). All the members stood in silence for a couple of minutes in memory of the departed souls.
