Ceasefire Restores Normalcy Across Border-State Districts
Chandigarh, May 10 — In the wake of a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, authorities across several districts in Punjab have rescinded blackout and restrictive orders issued amid escalating tensions.Earlier on Saturday, multiple districts including Sangrur, Rupnagar, and Fazilka had planned to enforce a blackout from 8 PM to 6 AM as a precautionary measure. However, following the announcement of the ceasefire, the orders were officially withdrawn.
“All restrictive orders are hereby withdrawn. Thank you for your support,” said Patiala Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav, confirming the lifting of restrictions in her district. Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal also echoed the sentiment, stating, “All restrictive orders are immediately withdrawn within the district. Things may resume as normal.”
Hoshiarpur DC Aashika Jain noted the return of stability: “All restriction orders stand suspended. Normalcy restored. Thanks for all your cooperation, support and efforts in challenging times.”
Before the ceasefire announcement, several districts including Jalandhar, Pathankot, and Kapurthala had urged closure of markets, suspension of commercial activities, and avoidance of large gatherings. In Mohali, cinema halls and shopping malls were ordered shut from sunset to sunrise.
Ceasefire Announcement Brings Relief
The decision to revoke the restrictive measures came after a significant diplomatic breakthrough. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced in Delhi that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan had agreed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea starting at 5 PM on Saturday. The development followed remarks by US President Donald Trump, who revealed that both nations had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire after intensive talks facilitated by Washington.
The ceasefire has been welcomed as a major step toward de-escalating the heightened military tensions, which had led to direct attacks on each other’s facilities just hours prior to the agreement.
With the situation stabilizing, authorities are urging citizens to resume normal life while remaining alert and cooperative with any ongoing precautionary efforts.
