Chandigarh, Feb 2 (PTI) – In a significant crackdown on cross-border narcotics smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two suspected drug smugglers near the Gurdaspur district border in Punjab. The arrests took place after the duo retrieved a heroin packet allegedly dropped by a Pakistani drone in Chanduwadala village late on Saturday.
According to a BSF official, the recovered heroin packet weighed approximately 550 grams and was equipped with a metal hook, a clear indication of drone-based smuggling operations. Acting on intelligence reports about drone activity, BSF personnel launched a search operation in the area, leading to the swift arrest of the accused.
Both suspects are reported to be residents of Chanduwadala village, reinforcing concerns over local involvement in cross-border drug trafficking networks. The BSF continues to intensify its surveillance and counter-drone operations along the international border to curb the influx of illegal substances.
This latest interception highlights the persistent challenge of drone-assisted drug smuggling along the Punjab border, a growing concern for law enforcement agencies. Investigations are underway to ascertain further links in the smuggling network.
