Chandigarh, Feb 4 (PTI) – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly condemned the registration of an FIR against Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi, questioning whether the Delhi Police and the Election Commission are solely focused on targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The Delhi Police on Tuesday registered a case against Atishi, the AAP candidate from Kalkaji, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and obstructing public servants on duty. According to officials, Atishi was present with AAP supporters at Fateh Singh Marg, where two party members allegedly assaulted a police constable and obstructed an officer from carrying out his duty.
Reacting sharply to the development, Mann accused the authorities of bias against AAP. In a post on X, he criticized the police and the Election Commission for allegedly turning a blind eye to violations by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"Instead of taking action against the hooliganism by BJP in Delhi, a police case has been filed against the Delhi Chief Minister on a complaint by the Election Commission. This is highly condemnable," Mann wrote.
He further questioned the impartiality of the authorities, stating, "Is the job of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission to target only the Aam Aadmi Party? BJP leaders are openly distributing liquor, money, and goods, violating the model code of conduct. Is this not visible to them?"
The development has sparked political tensions, with AAP leaders alleging that the police and election authorities are acting under pressure to undermine their campaign. The controversy adds to the ongoing political battle in Delhi as the state gears up for the upcoming elections.
