Chandigarh, March 1: In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police on Saturday apprehended an associate of the notorious Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang in Amritsar, uncovering an illegal weapon smuggling racket operating across state lines.
The arrested individual was identified as Gurbaaz Singh, who was associated with gangster Jagdeep Singh, popularly known as Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Jaggu Bhagwanpuria is known to be closely linked with Lawrence Bishnoi, a prominent gangster currently lodged in jail.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, announced the arrest in an official statement on social media platform X. He described the arrest as part of a "swift intelligence-led operation" carried out by Counter Intelligence Amritsar. During the operation, police seized six .32 bore pistols along with ten rounds of ammunition from Gurbaaz Singh's possession.
According to preliminary investigations, the confiscated weapons were illegally smuggled from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab and intended to be used for criminal activities across the state.
DGP Yadav further stated, "Further investigations are currently underway to trace the entire supply chain and identify other individuals involved in this illegal arms trade."
The police operation underscores the continued vigilance and proactive measures taken by Punjab Police to curb gang-related violence and illegal arms smuggling in the state.
