Pathankot, Feb 3 (PTI) – In a significant move to bolster border security, the Punjab Police will install 2,300 CCTV cameras at 703 key locations across the border belt from Pathankot to Fazilka, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Monday.

The initiative, undertaken at a cost of ₹45 crore, aims to reinforce the second line of defense and strengthen surveillance in the sensitive border regions.

"We are enhancing the second line of defense by installing 2,300 CCTV cameras across 703 strategic locations from Pathankot to Fazilka," said DGP Yadav while addressing the media in Pathankot.

Strengthening Cybersecurity & Surveillance

During his visit, Yadav also inaugurated a new cybercrime police station on the second floor of Police Station Division-1 in Pathankot. Equipped with advanced technologies, the facility will help combat the growing threat of cybercrimes. Citizens can report cybercrimes directly at the station or through the toll-free helpline 1930, he added.

Additionally, the DGP unveiled a revamped police command and control center, enhancing security monitoring in the district with state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance. A total of 344 high-definition (HD) cameras, including Auto Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, have been deployed for real-time monitoring of key locations, including the second line of defense, rural areas, and the city of Pathankot. Another 357 cameras will be installed soon to further boost security.

Inter-Agency Coordination to Combat Terrorism & Smuggling

Addressing a joint meeting with officers from the Punjab Police, Indian Army, and Border Security Force (BSF) at Narot Jaimal Singh Police Station, Yadav emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, gangster syndicates, and drug smuggling operations allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

"We must work as one team to break the nexus of terrorists, gangsters, and smugglers operating at the behest of Pakistan’s ISI," he asserted.

Recognition for Outstanding Service

DGP Yadav also honored several high-performing officers and personnel from Punjab Police and BSF with DGP Commendation Discs and appreciation letters for their exceptional service.

Later, he visited the BSF’s Shaheed Kamaljeet Singh Border Outpost along the India-Pakistan International Border to assess security measures and interact with personnel stationed there.

This large-scale surveillance upgrade and security coordination underscore Punjab Police’s commitment to fortifying border security and tackling cross-border threats effectively.
