Decision Driven by National Interest, Says Punjab Chief Minister
Chandigarh, May 11 – In a move reflecting the state’s commitment to national priorities, the Punjab government has agreed to release additional water to Rajasthan to meet the military’s needs in the desert state.Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann confirmed the decision, citing a request from the Rajasthan government seeking extra water from Punjab’s quota. The plea was made on behalf of the military units stationed along the Rajasthan border, where water scarcity is a critical concern.
"Whenever national interests are involved, Punjab never takes a backseat," Mann said in an official statement on Saturday. "Not only water, but Punjab can shed its blood for the sake of national interests."
The statement underscores Punjab’s willingness to prioritise the nation's strategic and defence needs, especially in border regions facing environmental challenges.
While the exact volume and timeline of the additional water release have not been disclosed, the decision highlights interstate cooperation in times of need and reaffirms Punjab’s role in supporting the armed forces.
