New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – As the crucial Delhi Assembly elections draw near, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made a last-ditch effort to rally support by holding roadshows in key constituencies of the national capital on Monday. The high-energy campaigns marked the final day of canvassing ahead of the February 5 polls.

Priyanka Gandhi spearheaded the Congress campaign in Kasturba Nagar, appealing to voters on behalf of party candidate Abhishek Dutt. He faces a three-way battle against AAP’s Ramesh Pehalwan and BJP’s Neeraj Basoya. The Congress general secretary greeted supporters, urging them to back the party’s promises and vision for Delhi.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi took charge in Kalkaji, lending his support to Congress candidate Alka Lamba. His roadshow passed through the Govindpuri area, seeking to mobilize voters in the face of stiff competition from Delhi Chief Minister and AAP candidate Atishi and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, a former South Delhi MP.

Congress Struggles to Reclaim Lost Ground

The Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 years under Sheila Dikshit until 2013, has faced a sharp decline in its political influence. In the last two assembly elections, the party failed to secure even a single seat in the 70-member house, as AAP cemented its dominance.

Determined to revive its electoral prospects, the Congress has introduced a set of five key guarantees aimed at addressing issues of inflation, unemployment, and social welfare. These include:
  • LPG cylinders at Rs 500
  • Free ration kits and 300 units of electricity for households
  • "Pyari Didi Yojana": A Rs 2,500 monthly grant for women
  • "Jeevan Raksha Yojana": Free health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh
  • Rs 8,500 per month for a year to educated unemployed youth
With polling scheduled for February 5, all eyes are now on voter turnout and how the Congress, AAP, and BJP fare in this high-stakes battle. The results will be declared on February 8, determining the political fate of the national capital.
