Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a detailed inspection of the Ahmedabad Railway Station redevelopment and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project at Anand in Gujarat on Saturday.
Ahmedabad Railway Station Revamp Progressing Rapidly
During his visit accompanied by senior officials from the Western Railway Zone, Minister Vaishnaw closely reviewed ongoing construction at Ahmedabad Railway Station. Highlighting the importance of cultural heritage, he said, "The design and appearance of the station will reflect the culture and heritage of Ahmedabad," noting that the redevelopment is expected to be completed within three-and-a-half years.According to Western Railway officials, the redevelopment contract for Ahmedabad station was awarded in November 2023, with a scheduled completion target by June 2027.
Station Inspired by Modhera Sun Temple
The revamped Ahmedabad station architecture draws inspiration from Gujarat's iconic Modhera Sun Temple. The project aims at seamlessly blending heritage sites with modern infrastructure, transforming the station into a world-class Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH).A Western Railway statement detailed, "The project envisages a holistic approach for integrating heritage monuments with a new City Centre at the station, providing world-class infrastructure including ample car parking, landscaped plazas, and an elevated road network connecting Kalupur ROB and Sarangpur ROB."
Passenger-Friendly Infrastructure Planned
A spacious 15-acre concourse plaza and a seven-acre mezzanine plaza will be constructed above the railway tracks, offering passenger amenities such as waiting areas, toilets, drinking water facilities, food courts, retail shops, kiosks, and baby feeding rooms. An elevated road network will decongest the station area and support multimodal connectivity with the Bullet Train terminal, metro, and bus rapid transit systems.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: India's Indigenous Engineering Showcase
Minister Vaishnaw also visited the site of the 200-meter-long steel bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project near Nadiad. He highlighted that the girder fabrication was completed domestically at the Salasar plant in Hapur, using high-quality steel sourced from leading Indian manufacturers such as TATA, JSW, and SAIL."This highlights India's self-reliance in infrastructure development and commitment to the Make in India initiative," Vaishnaw emphasized.
Anand Bullet Train Station Progress Appreciated
Reviewing progress at the upcoming Bullet Train station in Anand, Vaishnaw expressed satisfaction with the rapid pace of construction. He reported that approximately 360 kilometers of the 508-kilometer route have already been completed, with remaining sections progressing swiftly.Upon completion, the Bullet Train will operate at speeds of up to 320 kmph, connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad through 12 strategically placed stations.
Asked about the project's completion timeline, Vaishnaw assured, "Work is going on with great speed, and all efforts are being made to start operations as soon as possible."
