Hyderabad, February 28, 2025 – Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the joint responsibility of the Central and state governments in providing quality education to future generations, stressing that children must not only be prepared for the future but also be equipped to compete globally.
Speaking at the National Science Day event, 'Vigyan Vaibhav - 2025,' organized by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and other institutions in Hyderabad, Singh underscored the transformative potential of India's New Education Policy (NEP). He explained how NEP aims to revolutionize the country's education system by incorporating dynamic and practical learning elements such as fieldwork, hands-on practical training, and focused research.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, Singh said, "The very essence of education is the concentration of mind, not merely collecting facts." He reiterated the critical role of education as a concurrent subject under the Indian Constitution, emphasizing that collaboration between Central and state governments is vital in ensuring that every child receives high-quality education.
"Ensuring our young generation is future-ready and globally competitive is not merely an institutional goal, but a national mission," Singh asserted. He further emphasized that such preparation demands collective effort from all stakeholders across the nation.
Reflecting on India's journey, Singh noted that in the early years after independence, India's economy experienced slow growth. Recognizing science and technology as crucial drivers for economic progress, the nation turned toward scientific innovations to foster sustainable economic growth in industry and agriculture. He lauded the application of science, crediting it for achieving self-sufficiency in India's agricultural production.
Highlighting the significance of National Science Day, Singh said the occasion not only commemorates scientists' achievements but also serves as an inspiration for the younger generation to pursue science and innovation actively, contributing to national development and global leadership.
