New Facility Anchors Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor
Defence Minister
Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow on Sunday, marking a major milestone for the
Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. Built at a cost of
₹300 crore, the plant underscores India’s push for
self-reliant defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Production, Testing, and Advanced Materials Under One Roof
The 80-hectare complex will handle missile production, integration, and rigorous testing while housing a specialised materials unit for aerospace-grade components. Officials described the facility as a “strategic boost” to regional industrial growth that will draw investment and high-skill jobs to Uttar Pradesh.
Spotlight on the BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile
The unit will assemble one of the world’s fastest
supersonic cruise missiles, capable of reaching
Mach 2.8 and striking targets
290–400 km away.
BrahMos, a joint venture between India and Russia, features a versatile “fire and forget” guidance system and can be launched from land, sea, or air platforms.
Accelerating Corridor Growth
Announced in 2018, the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor comprises six nodes:
Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot. The corridor positions the state—second only to Tamil Nadu with such an initiative—to become a national hub for advanced defence manufacturing and allied industries.
Fast-Track Construction Reflects Government Backing
Completed in just three and a half years on land provided free of cost by the state government, the Lucknow BrahMos unit highlights swift project execution and strong federal-state collaboration. Authorities expect the new hub to spur further investment, drive technology transfer, and reinforce India’s defence readiness.
