Route Altered Amid Tensions at Keshtopur; Chatterjee Slams Police Action

Kolkata, April 6 – A Ram Navami rally led by BJP leader Locket Chatterjee was halted by police near Keshtopur on the northern fringes of Kolkata, prompting a reroute of the procession. The event, which began from a Ram Temple in New Town, faced resistance as it attempted to move towards Salt Lake via the VIP Road.

The incident led to a heated exchange between Chatterjee and police personnel at the site, where barricades had been set up near the Keshtopur crossing, adjacent to the arterial road connecting to the airport.

“This is not a political rally. It’s a spiritual congregation where people have participated spontaneously. How can the police stop this rally, which has the necessary permissions?” said Locket Chatterjee, visibly agitated.
Following the standoff, the former MP walked past the barricades and advised the rally participants to take an alternate route to prevent further disruption.

Chatterjee, seen at the front of the rally riding a two-wheeler, was joined by BJP leader Arjun Singh at the beginning of the procession. The rally is scheduled to conclude at Hanuman Mandir in Dum Dum.

Police sources maintained that the intervention was necessary due to the rally's attempted entry into Salt Lake, an area where traffic and security restrictions were reportedly in place.

The incident adds to the series of confrontations between political leaders and law enforcement agencies during religious and public events in the state.
