Kochi, Feb 27: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has raised concerns over the growing influence of violence in Malayalam cinema, specifically targeting recent action films like RDX and Marco, which he claims encourage aggressive behavior among youngsters.

Speaking to reporters, Chennithala expressed his apprehensions about the impact of such films on the state's youth. He asserted that several Malayalam movies released recently have "significantly misguided" young viewers, fostering a culture of violence and substance abuse.

"I believe it is necessary to conduct a serious analysis and impose regulations on movies that glorify violence while depicting the use of alcohol and drugs," Chennithala stated.

Linking the surge in criminal activities to the growing drug menace in Kerala, the Congress leader pointed to multiple murders in the state, including the recent mass killing in Thiruvananthapuram. He accused the government of failing to curb this crisis.

"In addition to that, movies like RDX, Kotthu, and Marco are actively encouraging youngsters to embrace violence. The government, which is ineffective in addressing this issue, must take preventive measures. Why is it not acting?" he questioned.

Chennithala also alleged that the consumption of alcohol and drugs had become widespread across Kerala, criticizing the government's inefficacy in controlling the situation.

"If the government wants to, it can curb their use within an hour. I have demonstrated that it is possible," he claimed, emphasizing that strict raids could immediately halt the drug menace.

However, he accused the administration of lacking the political will to implement such measures, warning that Kerala was on the verge of a severe law-and-order crisis.

His remarks have sparked discussions on the role of cinema in influencing societal behavior and the state's response to rising crime rates.
