Ranji Trophy 2024: Harsh Dubey’s Six-Wicket Haul Powers Vidarbha to Victory Over Hyderabad

Nagpur, Feb 2 (PTI) – Vidarbha's young left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey delivered a match-winning performance, claiming six wickets to steer his team to a 58-run victory over Hyderabad in their Ranji Trophy Group B clash on Sunday. The win cements Vidarbha's dominance at the top of the table as they march into the quarterfinals in formidable form.

Dubey, who was named ‘Player of the Match,’ dismantled Hyderabad’s batting lineup with a stunning 6/57 in the second innings, ensuring that last year’s runners-up remained unbeaten in the group stage.

Dubey’s Magic Ends Hyderabad’s Hopes

Chasing 220 for victory, Hyderabad had a fighting chance after resuming the final day at 23/1, needing 197 more runs to finish their campaign on a high. However, Dubey’s relentless spell rattled the top and middle order, turning the game in Vidarbha’s favor.

The collapse began early when overnight batter Tanay Thyagarajan was cleaned up by Aditya Thakare for just 18, adding only 13 runs to Hyderabad’s total. Dubey then took over, striking at regular intervals and dismissing Kodimela Himateja, Varun Goud, captain Chama Milind, Rakshan Readdi, and Mohammed Siraj.

Despite a late counterattack by Siraj, who smashed a 14-ball 26 with three boundaries and two sixes, Hyderabad’s resistance ended when Atharva Taide caught him off Dubey’s bowling. This marked Dubey’s seventh five-wicket haul in just 15 first-class matches, finishing the game with an eight-wicket haul overall.

Vidarbha’s Dominance Continues

With 40 points from seven matches, Vidarbha remains unbeaten, having won six games with just one draw. Their consistent performances mirror last year’s run, making them strong contenders for the title.

They are joined in the quarterfinals by Gujarat, who sealed their spot with a commanding nine-wicket win over Himachal Pradesh on Saturday.

Elsewhere in Group B: A Draw in Puducherry

Meanwhile, the match between Puducherry and Uttarakhand ended in a draw, with Puducherry’s Akash Kargave scoring a well-crafted 89 off 123 balls. The hosts declared at 201/8 in their second innings after posting 427 in the first, while Uttarakhand was bowled out for 273, thanks to a six-wicket haul from Sagar Udeshi.
