Nagpur, Feb 26 – Kerala's bowlers made a strong start in their quest for a maiden Ranji Trophy title, reducing two-time champions Vidarbha to 81 for 3 at lunch on the opening day of the final.

Frontline pacer MD Nidheesh led the charge with two wickets, while young new-ball partner Eden Apple Tom claimed one, putting Vidarbha in early trouble at 24 for 3. However, Danish Malewar (38)* and Karun Nair (24)* staged a recovery with an unbeaten 57-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Kerala skipper Sachin Baby made a crucial call for a review that resulted in Parth Rekhade's dismissal on the second ball of the match, as Nidheesh trapped him lbw. Darshan Nalkande followed soon after, falling to Nidheesh due to poor shot selection.

Eden Apple Tom delivered a key breakthrough, dismissing Dhruv Shorey (16) with a delivery that initially angled in but deviated after pitching, inducing an edge to the wicketkeeper.

Brief Scores:

Vidarbha 1st innings: 81/3 in 32 overs (Danish Malewar 38 batting, Karun Nair 24 batting; MD Nidheesh 2/11).

Kerala will look to capitalize on their early momentum when play resumes post-lunch.
