Reliance Power Wins 350 MW Solar + Battery Project from SJVN, Expands Clean Energy Portfolio.webp

New Delhi, May 12 — Reliance Power on Monday announced a significant boost to its renewable energy ambitions, with its subsidiary Reliance NU Energies securing a 350 MW solar power project integrated with a 175 MW/700 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) from SJVN Ltd.

The project, awarded under SJVN’s tariff-based competitive bidding process, will deliver a four-hour daily discharge window and offer 175 MWh of backup power. The winning bid was placed at a competitive fixed tariff of Rs 3.33 per kWh for a 25-year term, making it one of the most cost-efficient renewable energy projects in India’s transition landscape.

Largest Allocation in SJVN’s 1,200 MW Tender

Reliance NU Energies achieved the most significant allocation from SJVN’s 1,200 MW solar + 600 MW/2,400 MWh BESS tender connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). The tender witnessed participation from 19 bidders, with 18 qualifying for the final e-reverse auction. The project will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis, adhering to the standard bidding guidelines laid out by the Ministry of Power.

Once commissioned, the project will enhance Reliance Power’s clean energy portfolio with 600 MWp of solar PV capacity and 700 MWh of storage. This strengthens the company’s leadership in the integrated Solar + BESS segment, with a total pipeline now at 2.5 GWp of solar and 2.5 GWh of storage.

Strategic Pivot to Renewable Energy

This allocation marks a significant milestone in Reliance Power’s strategic shift towards renewable energy solutions. Before proceeding with the project, the company is awaiting the Letter of Award (LoA) from SJVN.

Separate 930 MW Solar + BESS Project with SECI

In a parallel development, Reliance NU Suntech Private Ltd, another 100 per cent subsidiary of Reliance Power, has signed a definitive 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for Asia’s largest integrated Solar + BESS project.

This ambitious project includes 930 MW of solar power and 465 MW/1,860 MWh of BESS, backed by an investment of up to Rs 10,000 crore. It will operate at a fixed tariff of Rs 3.53 per kWh for 25 years, offering long-term revenue predictability.

Growing Renewable Footprint

With these strategic wins, Reliance Power is accelerating its pivot from conventional energy to clean, dispatchable renewables. The company currently has an operating portfolio of 5,305 MW, including the 3,960 MW Sasan Power Ltd—the world's largest integrated coal-based power plant.

The latest developments reinforce Reliance Power’s commitment to leading India’s energy transition through large-scale, integrated renewable energy projects.
