Mumbai, May 10 – Acclaimed National Award-winning makeup artist Vikram Gaikwad, celebrated for his transformative work in Indian cinema, passed away on Saturday at the age of 61. He breathed his last at Hiranandani Hospital in Powai, where he had been admitted three days earlier due to blood pressure complications.

“He was quite stable when we brought him in. His blood pressure dropped significantly, and we couldn’t revive him. We didn’t expect this outcome,” said his younger brother, Dr. Prasanna Paranjpe.

Vikram Gaikwad's illustrious career spanned across Hindi, Marathi, and South Indian films, leaving an indelible mark with his craft in movies such as:

Gaikwad received two National Film Awards for Best Makeup Artist: the first in 2012 for The Dirty Picture, and another in 2014 for the Bengali film Jaatishwar.

Tributes Pour In​

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his condolences on X, describing Gaikwad as a "magician" who brought characters to life through his unparalleled skills.

“With his departure, we have lost a magician who breathed life into characters on screen through his artistry in makeup. His mastery lay in effortlessly turning the impossible into reality,” Shinde wrote.

Final Rites​

Gaikwad’s funeral will be held at Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar, where family, friends, and admirers from the film fraternity are expected to pay their final respects.

Vikram Gaikwad leaves behind a legacy of creativity, precision, and passion that helped shape the visual identity of some of Indian cinema's most iconic characters.
