Government of India Prioritizes Safety of Overseas Indian Community Amid Surge in Hate Crimes
New Delhi, April 4 – The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has raised concern over a recent surge in incidents of Hindu temples in the United States being defaced with anti-India graffiti. Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, shared this information in a written response in the Lok Sabha on Friday.Singh emphasized that the Indian government places the "highest priority" on the welfare, safety, and security of Indian citizens and the broader Indian community living abroad.
“In recent months, there has been a rise in the number of instances of Hindu temples being defaced with anti-India graffiti in the United States of America,” Singh stated.
Diplomatic Efforts Underway
Addressing concerns over the defacement and vandalism, Singh confirmed that each incident is promptly taken up with the US authorities through diplomatic channels. He noted that the Indian government is actively engaged in ensuring that such hate crimes are investigated thoroughly.Community and Law Enforcement Response
Singh also informed the Parliament that temple management committees and community associations have lodged formal complaints with local US law enforcement agencies.
