Road Accidents in Odisha Claim Life, Injure Several.webp

Balasore (Odisha), February 11 – One person was killed and five others were injured in two road accidents in the Balasore district of Odisha on Wednesday, according to police.

A school peon died after a truck hit him in the Telipali area of the Nilgiri block.

Following the accident, hundreds of angry students from Telipali High School and local villagers blocked the main road, demanding adequate compensation for the deceased's family, a police officer said, adding that traffic was disrupted.

They alleged that the peon died due to the reckless driving of the truck, which was being operated by a local contractor for the repair of the road.

Police removed the road blockade and launched an investigation.

In another accident, five people were injured, two of them seriously, after a car in which they were travelling crashed into a container truck on NH-16 near Talanagar in the Soro police station area.

All the injured were admitted to the Soro hospital, but two of them were later transferred to the Balasore district headquarters hospital for better treatment.

The car, which was travelling from Kuliana in neighbouring Mayurbhanj district towards Kakatpur, hit the container and veered off the road into a roadside ditch.

Police and NHAI officials rescued the injured.

The container driver fled the scene, and a search is underway to apprehend him, another police officer said.
