Rowdy sheeter wanted in murder case shot at leg while attempting to escape

Bengaluru, Feb 4 (PTI) – A 38-year-old rowdy sheeter, wanted in connection with a recent murder, was shot in the leg by the police early Tuesday morning while attempting to flee after attacking a police team, officials said.

The incident took place around 5:30 AM on the outskirts of Bengaluru, under the Sarjapur police station limits. The accused, identified as Srinivas, was the prime suspect in the murder of fellow rowdy sheeter Venkatesh, who was brutally hacked to death on the night of January 28.

Acting on a tip-off, police set a trap to apprehend Srinivas. However, when ordered to surrender, he allegedly resisted and attacked the officers. “A warning shot was fired in the air, but he continued to evade arrest and attempted to escape. As a result, our team was forced to shoot him in the leg to prevent his getaway,” a senior police official stated.

Srinivas was immediately taken into custody and admitted to a hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that he remains under medical care while being closely monitored.

Further investigations into the case are underway.
