₹2.2 Crore Compensation Awarded to Kin of Accident Victim by Thane Lok Adalat
Thane, Maharashtra – May 10:In a landmark decision, the Lok Adalat in Thane district on Saturday awarded a compensation of ₹2.2 crore to the family of a man who died in a motorcycle accident last year. Officials described this as one of the highest compensation settlements in the district for 2025 so far.
The cheque was formally handed over by Principal District Judge S.B. Agrawal in the presence of Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) Member S.N. Shah and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary Ishwar Suryavanshi.
Details of the Accident
The victim, Pradip Nagtilak (44), was riding pillion on a friend’s motorcycle in Dombivli when the vehicle reportedly skidded. Both riders sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital, but Nagtilak succumbed to his injuries within hours.Following the tragedy, Nagtilak's family—including his wife, parents, and two children—filed for compensation, which culminated in this significant Lok Adalat settlement.
Legal Representation and Settlement Significance
Advocate Keshava Poojari, representing the insurance company, confirmed that this was the highest compensation awarded by the Lok Adalat in Thane this year. The outcome reflects the tribunal’s emphasis on expediting justice and providing meaningful financial relief to accident victims’ families.This case underscores the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms like Lok Adalats in delivering timely and substantial justice.
