Union Minister Sanjay Seth Discusses Defence Cooperation in Moscow
Moscow, May 10 – Russia has reaffirmed its unwavering support to India in its fight against terrorism and pledged to expedite all pending military orders, according to Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth.Seth, who represented India at the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, met with Russian Deputy Defence Minister Col Gen Alexander Fomin during his visit to Moscow. The leaders discussed strengthening bilateral military and technical cooperation.
"Russia assured that it will support us in our battle against all manifestations of terrorism and said the cooperation between the two nations will continue to advance based on existing agreements," Seth stated before returning to New Delhi.
Defence Commitments and Strategic Dialogue
The Russian side promised prompt fulfillment of military orders currently in the pipeline. Both countries also agreed to deepen ties through established frameworks and regular consultations.Seth conveyed India’s gratitude for Russia’s consistent support against cross-border terrorism. He emphasized that the meeting underlined the commitment of both nations to reinforce their strategic defence partnership.
Symbolic Gesture and Community Outreach
During the visit, Seth laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, honoring fallen soldiers. He also addressed members of the Indian community in Moscow on Friday, highlighting the long-standing and cordial relationship between the two nations.“The colder the weather in Russia, the warmer the friendship with India,” Seth remarked, noting the unseasonably cold May weather in Moscow.
Praise for President Putin’s Humility
Reflecting on his interaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Seth said, “I had an opportunity to meet President Putin thrice. He very warmly greeted me and impressed me with his humble nature.”Seth was chosen to represent India at the Victory Day parade as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were unable to travel due to heightened tensions with Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
