A rusted anti-tank mine was discovered and safely neutralized in a controlled explosion by the bomb disposal squad in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials reported on Sunday, March 2.

The mine came to light on Saturday when a local villager spotted it during the cremation of an individual at Kamore village, located near the Tanwar border outpost.

Upon receiving the report, local police immediately alerted the bomb disposal squad, who swiftly arrived on-site. The squad successfully carried out a controlled explosion, effectively eliminating the threat posed by the unexploded ordinance.

No injuries or damages were reported, and the area has since been declared safe by the authorities.

The incident highlights the continuing challenges posed by unexploded munitions along border areas, underscoring the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting to authorities.

Local residents have been urged by officials to remain alert and immediately inform police upon encountering any suspicious objects or munitions to ensure community safety.
