Mumbai, Feb 26 – Rising amateur golfer Saanvi Sonu surged into the lead at the fourth leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT) after delivering a flawless second-round performance of two-under 68 at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club.
The 16-year-old, who has finished runner-up multiple times on the Hero WPGT—including in the season’s opening leg—showcased remarkable composure. After an opening-round 73, Saanvi played a disciplined second round, parring her first 11 holes before securing her first birdie on the Par-4 12th. She closed the round with another birdie on the Par-5 18th, finishing at one-over 141—one shot ahead of experienced professional Vani Kapoor.
Kapoor, preparing for an upcoming international season, carded an even-par 70, adding to her first-round 72. She had a rollercoaster start with three birdies and three bogeys in her first 11 holes but steadied her game with seven consecutive pars to stay in contention.
Amateur golfer Anuradha Chaudhuri matched Kapoor’s even-par round, joining a three-way tie at 142 alongside Seher Atwal (72-70). Meanwhile, Lavanya Jadon, recovering from an early bogey, posted four birdies between the fifth and 14th holes to sign off with a 70. She was tied for fifth with Jasmine Shekar, a two-time winner in 2024, who carded rounds of 72-71 for a total of three-over 143.
With a tightly contested leaderboard featuring a dozen players within four shots of the lead, Gaurika Bishnoi climbed to seventh after a solid 69, bringing her total to 144.
Overnight leader Mannat Brar (68-77) slipped to tied-eighth at 145, alongside 2024 Hero Order of Merit winner Hitaashee Bakshi (72-73), Shweta Mansingh (70-75), Disha Kavery (74-71), and Kriti Chowhan (70-75).
Further down, Ridhima Dilawari (74-72) was tied-13th with Ananya Datar and Durga Nittur.
Defending back-to-back winner Sneha Singh had another challenging round, adding a 74 to her first-round 73. She currently sits tied-16th at seven-over 147—six shots off the lead—but remains in contention for a comeback if she can produce a low final round.
With a tightly packed leaderboard, the final round promises an intense battle as both experienced pros and promising amateurs vie for the title.
