Saints have always played key role in eradication of social evils: Murmu

Chhatarpur (MP), Feb 26: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday emphasized the pivotal role of saints in eradicating social evils and securing a dignified status for women in society. Speaking at a mass wedding ceremony at Bageshwar Dham in Garha village, Madhya Pradesh, she underlined the significance of spiritual leaders in shaping a developed India by 2047.

The event witnessed the marriage of 251 couples in a grand celebration of tradition and social harmony. Addressing the gathering, President Murmu lauded the contributions of revered saints such as Tukaram, Ravidas, Kabirdas, Guru Nanak, and Mirabai in promoting social justice and women's empowerment.

Commending the efforts of Bageshwar Dham in organizing the mass wedding, she noted that the initiative extends beyond rituals, as the newlywed women are being provided with sewing machines and essential items to foster self-reliance.

The event was also attended by Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Bageshwar Peeth's seer Dhirendra Shastri, who addressed the gathering and extended their support to the noble cause.
