LOS ANGELES, April 1 — Acclaimed filmmaker Sam Mendes is set to bring the lives of each member of The BeatlesPaul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—to the big screen in a groundbreaking four-film project slated for theatrical release in April 2028.

"The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event" Announced at CinemaCon

Speaking at CinemaCon, Mendes unveiled the ambitious project, officially titled "The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event", which will explore the personal and musical journeys of the legendary band members through four interconnected biopics.

In a unique move, the films will offer audiences a “binge-able theatrical experience,” though it remains unclear if all four will be released simultaneously or in weekly succession.

Star-Studded Cast Confirmed

The much-anticipated casting has also been confirmed:
  • Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) as Paul McCartney
  • Joseph Quinn (Gladiator II, Stranger Things) as George Harrison
  • Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) as Ringo Starr
  • Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) as John Lennon

A Cinematic First with Beatles’ Full Music Catalog

In a major milestone for music biopics, this will be the first narrative film series officially granted access to The Beatles' full music catalog, including timeless hits like "Let It Be", "Yellow Submarine", "I Am the Walrus", and "Strawberry Fields Forever".

Mendes on the Vision Behind the Project

Mendes, known for directing acclaimed films such as American Beauty, 1917, and James Bond titles Skyfall and Spectre, shared that he had always aspired to bring The Beatles’ story to the screen—but not in the form of a traditional series.

“The story was too huge to fit into a single movie,” Mendes explained. “That’s why I decided to tell it from four perspectives. It’s a chance to understand them more deeply.”

Filming Timeline

Production on the four films will span a full year, with principal photography set to begin soon.

Known as the most influential band in Western music history, The Beatles captured global attention during their active years from 1960 to 1970. Their unprecedented popularity gave rise to the term "Beatlemania", and their musical legacy continues to inspire generations.
