Lucknow, Feb 2 (PTI) – Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed deep anguish over the tragic death of a 22-year-old Dalit woman in Ayodhya, calling it an "inhuman incident" that has shaken the entire party. The unclothed body of the missing woman was discovered in a desolate canal near her village, with her family alleging brutal murder and sexual assault.
According to the victim’s family, the woman’s eyes were gouged out, her bones broken, and her body bore severe wounds and fractures, painting a horrifying picture of the crime. The discovery has sparked outrage, with SP leaders strongly condemning the incident.
SP’s Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad visited the grieving family, offering support and demanding justice. Overcome with emotion, Prasad broke down during a press conference while addressing the brutal nature of the crime.
Akhilesh Yadav blamed the ruling BJP government for what he called increasing "atrocities" against the backward, Dalit, and minority communities—referred to by the SP as the PDA (pichde, Dalit, alpsankhyak).
In a scathing statement, Yadav also accused the BJP of orchestrating a political conspiracy in Milkipur, where a bypoll is scheduled for February 5. He alleged that the local administration, under BJP’s influence, was working to suppress SP’s chances in the election.
"People in Milkipur are with the Samajwadi Party, but under government pressure, the administration is trying to defeat us," Yadav claimed. He further labeled the BJP as "the most dishonest and lying party" that is undermining democracy and the Constitution.
"The BJP government is harassing Samajwadi Party leaders and workers by filing false cases against them. Their approach is nothing short of dictatorial," he added.
With polling in the Milkipur assembly by-election set for February 5 and vote counting scheduled for February 8, the political atmosphere remains charged as parties trade accusations amid the demand for justice for the slain Dalit woman.
