Jamui, March 1: In a startling incident, unidentified members of a sand mafia allegedly fired upon a police team during a raid conducted at the Patauna-Daulatpur ghat in Bihar's Jamui district. The raid followed credible reports of illegal sand mining operations in the area.
The confrontation occurred early Saturday morning, according to officials. Acting swiftly on specific intelligence, a police team arrived at Patauna-Daulatpur ghat to investigate and halt illegal sand extraction activities.
As officers surrounded approximately eight to ten tractors actively engaged in unauthorized mining, unidentified assailants suddenly unleashed gunfire, firing around nine to ten rounds toward the police personnel. Promptly responding in self-defense, the police team returned fire. However, the suspects managed to escape under cover of gunfire, fleeing the scene along with most of their tractors.
Thankfully, authorities confirmed that there were no injuries reported from either side. In the aftermath, police successfully seized one tractor abandoned by the accused.
An official statement issued by the Jamui Police confirmed that a formal case has been registered regarding the incident. Investigations are currently underway, and law enforcement agencies have initiated a rigorous manhunt to track down and apprehend the culprits involved.
