Security Forces Arrest Three in Manipur for Extortion; Arms and Ammunition Seized

Imphal, April 2 — In a significant crackdown on extortion and insurgency-linked activities, security forces arrested three individuals, including a cadre of the banned PREPAK-Pro outfit, from different locations across Manipur’s Kakching and Imphal East districts.

PREPAK-Pro Cadre Nabbed in Kakching​

According to police, a member of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), or PREPAK-Pro, was apprehended on Tuesday from Aihang village in Kakching district.

The individual was reportedly involved in direct extortion operations in and around the Wangoo Chairel and Pangaltabi areas, targeting local communities and disrupting normalcy in the region.

Two More Arrested for Aiding Underground Groups​

In a related operation, two more suspects were detained on Monday from the Wangkhei area in Imphal East district. The duo is accused of facilitating extortion activities on behalf of underground outfits, particularly targeting transport vehicles operating in the Sekmai area of Imphal West district.

Weapons Cache Recovered in Imphal West​

Security personnel also launched a coordinated search operation on Tuesday in Sajirok, Imphal West, leading to a significant arms recovery.

The seized items include:
  • One Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) with a magazine
  • One single-barrel gun
  • Three 9mm pistols with corresponding magazines
  • One hand grenade
  • Four smoke grenades
  • A substantial quantity of ammunition and other related items
Authorities believe these weapons were meant to fuel further illegal activities in the region.

Ongoing Efforts to Curb Insurgency​

The arrests and arms recovery mark a continuing effort by law enforcement agencies to dismantle insurgent networks and curb the flow of illegal weapons in the troubled northeastern state. Police said further investigations are underway to identify more operatives and collaborators linked to these groups.
