Imphal, Feb 4 (PTI): Security forces in Manipur have seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition during extensive search operations conducted in Bishnupur and Tengnoupal districts, police reported on Tuesday.

In a major operation on Monday, security personnel raided the Phougakchao Mamang Leikai area near the Khuga river banks in Bishnupur district, leading to the recovery of a large number of weapons and explosives. The seized items included an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a 2-inch mortar, two SMG carbines, two country-made 9mm pistols with magazines, three hand grenades, two IED explosives, 20 gelatine sticks, and five 9mm live rounds, officials stated.

Additionally, law enforcement arrested a suspect at the Khuyathong crossing in Imphal West district on the same day. A 9mm pistol along with a magazine was recovered from the individual’s possession, police added.

Further operations on Sunday in Tengnoupal district, particularly in the Duthang Laiching track area, resulted in another major arms haul. Security forces confiscated a 9mm pistol with a magazine, an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a .303 rifle, and a country-made 12-bore rifle along with ammunition.

Authorities continue their intensified operations across the region to curb the illegal circulation of arms and ensure security.
