In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, security forces in Tripura have seized narcotics worth Rs 24 crore in two separate operations in the Khowai and Dhalai districts, officials confirmed on Friday.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off, a joint operation by Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a cement-laden truck at Teliamura in Khowai district on Thursday. Upon thorough inspection, officials discovered and seized around 90,000 Yaba tablets, estimated to have a street value of Rs 9 crore. One individual has been arrested in connection with this seizure, authorities confirmed.
In an earlier operation on Wednesday, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Customs officials, uncovered another substantial consignment. Authorities seized approximately 1,50,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 15 crore from two unclaimed bags aboard the Shatabdi Express in the Dhalai district. Investigations are currently underway to identify the individuals involved.
Yaba, colloquially known as "crazy medicine," is a highly addictive stimulant drug consisting of methamphetamine mixed with caffeine. The illegal substances reportedly enter Tripura through a network originating in Myanmar, passing through Manipur and Mizoram, police added.
These seizures reflect the growing vigilance and proactive approach of security forces in combating drug smuggling in Tripura, disrupting significant trafficking routes in the region.
