High Alert Amid India-Pakistan Tensions; No Shore Access for Crew
Paradip, May 14 – Authorities in Odisha have heightened security measures at Paradip Port following the arrival of an oil tanker carrying 21 Pakistani crew members, amid ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The vessel, identified as ‘MT Siren II,’ docked early Wednesday morning, having sailed from South Korea via Singapore. Officials confirmed that it is transporting 11,350 metric tonnes of crude oil intended for Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL).
According to Babita Dehuri, the Marine Police Station inspector in charge, the Odisha Marine Police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) intensified surveillance after receiving crew details from the Immigration Department. The ship’s presence, particularly with a majority Pakistani crew, prompted authorities to place Paradip Port on high alert due to the recent India-Pakistan military confrontation.
The ship is anchored at the ‘PM berth’, approximately 20 kilometres offshore. To maintain security during operations, authorities have issued strict orders barring any crew member from disembarking while crude evacuation is underway.
Officials reiterated that these measures are purely precautionary and aim to ensure port and national security during a period of heightened diplomatic sensitivity.
