Court to Hear Bail Plea on Saturday; Kerala Bar Council Temporarily Suspends Accused from Practice

Thiruvananthapuram, May 16 – Advocate Beylin Das, a senior lawyer accused of brutally assaulting his female junior colleague, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days on Friday by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-II in Thiruvananthapuram.

The magistrate, Revitha K G, issued the remand order after Das was produced before the court following his arrest on Friday night. Advocate Dileep Sathyan's counsel confirmed that a bail plea had also been filed and that a hearing on Saturday is scheduled.

Accused Alleges Counter-Assault, Cites Injuries

In the bail application, Das has denied all charges, claiming that the alleged offences do not hold ground. He also alleged that the complainant assaulted him, advocate Shyamal.

"The court has taken note of the injuries on his forehead and ear," Sathyan said.

Das was taken into custody shortly after filing for anticipatory bail. Police reported that he had been evading arrest by hiding in multiple locations within the state capital since the incident occurred on May 13.

Victim’s Family Refutes Counter-Allegations

The victim's family has dismissed Das’s claims, describing them as a ploy to obtain bail. While one senior member of the Vanchiyoor Bar Association allegedly stated that Shyamily had hit Das, her family and legal representatives have strongly denied such accusations.

Shyamily has vowed to pursue all available legal avenues to permanently ensure that Das is barred from practicing law.

Kerala Bar Council Reacts

Responding to the incident, the Kerala Bar Council on Wednesday announced that Beylin Das has been temporarily suspended from practicing law, citing the "shameful act" he is accused of committing.

Shyamily also revealed a history of abuse by Das, stating that he had assaulted her once before when she was five months pregnant. "He gets angry very quickly if we question anything he says or does. He had hit me earlier when I questioned his behaviour of throwing files at me. This time too, he got angry over an internal matter and assaulted me," she said.

The accused lawyer has not issued a public statement and was unavailable for comment. As the bail hearing approaches, the legal community continues to watch the proceedings closely.
