Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), April 1 — In a tragic incident at Ballia railway station, a senior section engineer with the Indian Railways lost his life after being hit by a freight train on Monday, police confirmed.
The victim, identified as Shankar Mandal, 58, was reportedly walking from platform number 2 toward his office located at the eastern end of platform number 1 when the incident occurred. According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), he was fatally struck by a freight train traveling from Chhapra to Ghazipur.
GRP Station House Officer Vivekanand Yadav stated that police personnel arrived at the scene soon after receiving information about the accident. The body was immediately taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination.
Mandal, a resident of Katihar in Bihar, was serving in a senior engineering capacity and had been associated with railway operations for several years.
Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation into the matter to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
