Serial Wedding Theft Accused Arrested in Delhi; Accomplice Still at Large.webp

New Delhi, May 11 — A 51-year-old habitual offender was arrested by Delhi Police for his involvement in a string of thefts during wedding functions in outer north Delhi, officials said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Mukesh alias Pappu, hailing from Karampura, is a known history-sheeter and has been previously booked in 11 criminal cases. He is also listed as a "bad character" at the Karampura police station.

Two Thefts Trigger Investigation

The investigation was initiated after two separate thefts were reported at wedding venues in Paschim Vihar. On April 19, an e-FIR was lodged after gold jewellery and cash went missing during a wedding at Lavanya Banquet Hall. A second complaint followed on May 1, when Rs 80,000 was stolen from a guest’s bag at Foriya Banquet Hall.

CCTV and Surveillance Lead to Arrest

According to a senior police officer, hours of CCTV footage from both venues were analyzed. Officers identified a suspicious individual present at both sites. Footage also captured the suspect fleeing in a Maruti Swift car, with partial registration details visible.

Using technical surveillance, police traced the vehicle to Nihal Vihar. A subsequent raid led to Mukesh's arrest. During interrogation, he confessed to committing both thefts along with an associate, Jitendar alias Jitu.

Stolen Money Used on Personal Expenses

Mukesh admitted to spending part of the stolen money on car repairs and household expenses. His associate, Jitendar, remains at large as police continue efforts to apprehend him.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have confirmed that further investigation is underway to recover stolen items and determine if the duo is linked to additional thefts in the region.
