Director Sericulture J&K flagged off the fourth batch of silkworm farmers for a five-day exposure-cum-training program in Himachal Pradesh under HADP.

Feb 13, Srinagar: Director Sericulture J&K Ajaz Ahmad Bhat flagged off the fourth batch of silkworm farmers from the Kashmir Division for a five-day inter-state exposure-cum-training program in Himachal Pradesh under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme.

The group departed from the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, in the presence of senior officers and district-level field functionaries. Participants from various districts of the Kashmir Division will undergo training at reputed sericulture institutions and field units in Himachal Pradesh.

The program aims to equip farmers with advanced knowledge and practical skills in scientific sericulture practices. The training will cover improved chawki rearing management, integrated disease control, high-yield mulberry cultivation, efficient leaf management, enhanced cocoon production and value addition in post-cocoon sectors. Emphasis will also be placed on climate-resilient and cost-effective practices adaptable to Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhat highlighted the importance of continuous learning in strengthening the sericulture sector. He said inter-state exposure visits under HADP help farmers understand successful models and best practices adopted in leading sericulture states. He urged participants to actively engage in the sessions and apply the knowledge to improve productivity and income.

Bhat reiterated that farmer capacity building remains a priority for the department and assured continued technical assistance, input support, and handholding through various initiatives under HADP. He encouraged participants to share their learning with fellow rearers in their respective districts.

The participating farmers expressed appreciation to the Sericulture Development Department for organizing the exposure visit and said they were committed to adopting improved technologies to strengthen sericulture as a sustainable livelihood in the Union Territory.
