Police Bust Crime Ring Involved in Staging Murders as Accidents
Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, May 11 — In a chilling case of insurance fraud, police in Sambhal have arrested seven individuals accused of murdering two men and disguising their deaths as road accidents to claim insurance payouts worth crores of rupees.
According to officials, the arrested accused include Vedprakash, Kamal Singh, Nirdesh Kumar, Udaybhan Singh, Premshankar, Sunil Kumar, and Omprakash. The gang is believed to have meticulously plotted and executed the killings of Salim in 2022 and Aman in 2023, with both deaths initially registered as road accidents.
Crores in Insurance Policies Used as Bait
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anukriti Sharma stated that Salim was killed on July 29, 2022, while Aman met a similar fate on November 15, 2023. At the time, police closed both cases as accidental deaths. However, fresh investigations revealed a sinister pattern.“Salim had insurance policies totalling Rs 88 lakh. Aman’s policies were even more staggering, amounting to Rs 2.70 crore, taken out from multiple insurance companies,” ASP Sharma said.
Breakthrough Through Digital Evidence
The case took a new turn in February when a man named Shahrukh was arrested. Digital evidence from a mobile phone chat involving Kamal Singh reopened suspicions in Aman's death.Further investigation uncovered that Vedprakash, Aman's maternal uncle, was not only involved in orchestrating the murder but had also acted as the complainant in the supposed accident case. Approximately Rs 20 lakh had already been deposited into a bank account from the insurance payout.
Salim's Case Mirrors Same Modus Operandi
The probe into Aman's murder led to the unearthing of a similar pattern in Salim's death, where the gang had already managed to fraudulently claim Rs 75 lakh in insurance money.
“Our investigation revealed an organised gang that deliberately targeted individuals, secured heavy insurance in their names, and then murdered them to falsely claim the benefits as accident compensation,” said ASP Sharma.
The case has exposed a deeply calculated and gruesome operation driven by financial greed, and authorities have assured that further investigations are underway to trace more possible links or victims.
