Imphal, May 15 – In a significant crackdown on insurgency, security forces arrested seven militants affiliated with various proscribed outfits across multiple districts of Manipur, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The arrests, carried out in Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur districts, targeted members involved in extortion and other insurgent activities.

PLA Militants Nabbed in Thoubal​

Two active operatives of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) were apprehended from the Leirongthel Prita area in Thoubal district on Wednesday. The individuals, identified as RK Mubisana Meitei (47) and Moirangthem Naresh Singh (28), were reportedly engaged in extortion operations. Police recovered two pistols (9mm and .32mm) along with magazines and seven cartridges from their possession.

UNLF (Koireng) Members Arrested in Bishnupur and Kakching​

In Bishnupur district, Moirangthem Chinglen Singh (44), an active member of the United National Liberation Front (Koireng faction), was detained from his residence in Kangmong Meisnam Maning Leikai on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, security forces also apprehended Asem Nanao Singh (31), another cadre of the UNLF (Koireng), from the Lamdong area in Kakching district. He was actively involved in extortion activities within the district.

UNLF (Pambei) and CKLA/UPLF Cadres Caught​

In Imphal East’s Minuthong, Waikhom Rajesh Singh (32), linked to the UNLF (Pambei) faction, was arrested for extorting money from cargo agencies operating in the Imphal Valley.

In Churachandpur's Saikot village, authorities arrested David Ngamjang (25), a self-styled ‘Sergeant Major’ of the CKLA/UPLF group. A 9mm pistol and three cartridges were seized from him.

KCP (Taibanganba) Member Held in Kakching​

Also on Tuesday, a militant associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba faction) was taken into custody from Waikhong in Kakching district. He was involved in ongoing extortion-related activities.

Ongoing Anti-Insurgency Measures​

Security officials emphasized that the operations were part of intensified efforts to curb militant activities and maintain law and order across the state. All arrested individuals are currently in custody and are being interrogated for further links and information.

This series of coordinated arrests marks a major step in the state’s ongoing battle against insurgency and extortion in the region.
