Mumbai, Feb 3 (PTI) – Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan on Monday introduced his son Aryan Khan's debut web series, The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, at Netflix’s highly anticipated slate announcement event. The superstar expressed his heartfelt wishes for his children as they embark on their journey in the entertainment industry, hoping they receive even "50 per cent" of the immense love and support he has garnered over the years.

The grand event saw Shah Rukh Khan as its biggest and final guest, with an electrifying audience cheering him on with chants of "I love you, Shah Rukh." Addressing the gathering, the 59-year-old actor expressed his delight at witnessing such a vast media presence after a long time.

"It is my prayer that even if they get 50 per cent of the love that I have received, then it will be a lot for them," said Khan, speaking about his children stepping into showbiz.

Produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment, The Ba**ds of Bollywood* marks Aryan Khan’s directorial and creative debut. The series is co-created by Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan and is pronounced as The Bads of Bollywood, as clarified by Shah Rukh during the event.

Aryan Khan’s Hard Work and the Family’s Connection to Cinema

Shah Rukh praised Aryan’s dedication to the project, emphasizing that success is measured by audience entertainment.

"Aryan has worked very hard on this. Hard work pays off only when the viewers are entertained. And now it has become a part of the family, so it is our duty to entertain the audiences. It is a kind of a family show as Netflix is also like a family to me... I hope this family get-together entertains India," he added.

The show delves into the life of an ambitious outsider and his friends as they navigate the unpredictable world of Bollywood. According to the official synopsis, the series combines self-aware humor with high-stakes drama, featuring unforgettable cameos, blockbuster thrills, and an adventurous dive into the Indian film industry.

Shah Rukh shared insights on the inspiration behind the series, explaining that Aryan and Suhana have grown up immersed in Hindi cinema while also experiencing life abroad.

"They have mixed their experiences to create this show. It reflects what happens to people when they arrive in Mumbai – the good, the bad, and everything in between. It's not just about the best or the worst, but The Bads of Bollywood," he said.

Bollywood’s Presence at Mannat: A Childhood Perspective

Recalling Aryan and Suhana’s childhood, Shah Rukh humorously shared how they once assumed that every guest at their home worked in television.

"When they were little, my friends from the industry—Karan Johar, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and many others—would visit our home, Mannat. After a few years, Aryan and Suhana started asking, ‘Papa, kya sab log TV main kaam karte hain?’ because they saw them on television," he laughed.

Khan also thanked industry colleagues who supported Aryan in his directorial venture, though he refrained from naming them.

A Special Teaser and Shah Rukh’s Advice to Aryan

At the event, Shah Rukh showcased a humorous promo, calling the series the biggest, baddest, bravest, whackiest, funniest, cheekiest, maddest, and filmiest show on earth. He also revealed that Aryan had advised him to stay tight-lipped about the project until the Netflix event.

"He said everyone is going to showcase their projects, and we will only show ‘you’. For Aryan and Gauri, I am ‘ghar ki murgi’ (taken for granted at home). I shot this promo all night, but I must say, the actors in the series have done an incredible job," Shah Rukh added.

He further joked about passing on his sense of humor to Aryan:

"I like things that are funny, but people take offense when I joke, so I have stopped. I have passed that ‘virasat’ (legacy) to my son and told him, ‘Tu kar beta, ja baap ka naam roshan kar’ (You do it, son, and make your father proud).”

Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment: A Growing Partnership

The Ba**ds of Bollywood* marks the sixth collaboration between Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment, following Darlings, Bhakshak, Class of ’83, Betaal, and Bard of Blood.

Reflecting on this partnership, Shah Rukh acknowledged Netflix’s role in fostering quality content.

"When Netflix arrived in India, they gave us a great opportunity. Bilal (Siddiqi) wrote this show, and we started from there. The last project we did was Darlings. What’s great about Netflix is their commitment to quality storytelling and cinematic experiences.

"At Red Chillies, our attempt is always to create high-quality films, though some may turn out bad. But our priority is making cinema that meets technical and visual excellence because today’s audience, especially the younger generation, demands quality content," he concluded.

With The Ba**ds of Bollywood* set to bring a fresh and humorous take on the world of Indian cinema, Aryan Khan’s debut as a creator and director is already generating significant buzz in the industry.
