Shimla, March 3 — The Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange' warning for heavy snowfall at isolated locations in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district on Monday. The local authorities, in response, have urged residents and tourists to stay away from sensitive areas and avoid unnecessary travel in the region.
The weather alert also covers other parts of the state, with heavy rain and snow expected in Chamba and Kangra districts, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. In addition, hailstorms are forecast for Bilaspur, Hamirpur, and Solan districts.
Given the weather conditions, the Mandi administration has advised the public to refrain from traveling to higher altitudes until further notice.
Over the past 24 hours, the weather remained mostly dry, with Bilaspur and Mandi experiencing shallow fog. The region had seen a surge of tourists heading to Shimla and other popular hill stations over the weekend, following last week's snowfall.
The minimum temperatures remained largely unchanged, with Keylong in the Lahaul and Spiti district recording the coldest temperature at minus 10.2°C.
Meanwhile, the state is grappling with widespread road closures due to landslides and flash floods from recent heavy rainfall. Restoration work is currently underway to clear the affected routes and restore connectivity.
As the weather conditions continue to be unpredictable, local authorities advise travelers to stay informed about the latest updates and exercise caution when venturing into affected areas.
