Tensions Rise Following Scuffle in Malad's Pathanwadi Area
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam on Tuesday strongly demanded the immediate arrest of all individuals accused of involvement in a recent communal clash during a Gudi Padwa procession in Mumbai's Malad West.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Pathanwadi locality of Kurar, Malad West. According to reports, tensions flared when two men travelling in an autorickshaw, carrying a saffron flag, passed near a mosque. A group confronted and assaulted the individuals, leading to a scuffle that quickly escalated tensions within the community.
Police Under Scrutiny Over Alleged Inaction
Addressing reporters, Sanjay Nirupam expressed strong displeasure with the local police response. "The Kurar police should not work under pressure. All suspects and accused should be taken into custody. Only three people have been arrested, while nine were named in the first information report," Nirupam asserted.
He further accused the local MLA of exerting undue influence on the Kurar police, suggesting that authorities were being pressured to halt further arrests. Nirupam went as far as stating that the police were acting as aides to the MLA, undermining the fairness of their investigation.
Nirupam Calls for Action Against Allegedly Illegal Mosque Structures
In addition to demanding further arrests, Nirupam highlighted concerns about alleged illegal constructions at the mosque in the area. He called on authorities to take decisive action against these unauthorized structures, emphasizing that the party would not tolerate political interference obstructing justice.
As the situation remains sensitive, authorities have registered cases against nine individuals, with three arrests made thus far. Nirupam warned that the Shiv Sena would escalate its protest if police action continued to be influenced by political pressures.
The Kurar police have yet to publicly respond to Nirupam's accusations, and further developments are awaited.
