Explosions Rock Srinagar Despite India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement
New Delhi, May 10 — Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora sharply criticised Pakistan on Saturday, likening trust in its commitments to "shaking hands with a grenade", following reports of explosions across Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir just hours after a ceasefire agreement was announced between the two nations.Government sources confirmed on Saturday night that Pakistan violated the bilateral understanding reached earlier that day, which aimed to halt all military actions across land, air, and sea.
Deora expressed his dismay over the breach in a strongly-worded statement on social media platform X, where he wrote, "A ceasefire means little when the world's biggest terror syndicate isn't just LeT or JeM — it's the Pakistani state itself. Trusting them is like shaking hands with a grenade."
The ceasefire agreement had been declared following high-level talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, in which they committed to an immediate cessation of hostilities.
However, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reported that explosions continued to be heard across Srinagar even after the announcement, underscoring growing concerns about the credibility of the ceasefire and Pakistan’s intentions.
The sudden resumption of hostilities despite official announcements has drawn sharp criticism from Indian political leaders and raised questions about the future of peace efforts between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
