Shivakumar to Discuss Mekedatu and Party Strategy.webp

Bengaluru, February 9 Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Monday that he would travel to New Delhi to meet party leaders on February 10.

"I will be meeting the party leaders who have invited me to Delhi. During the visit, I will also meet Union Water Resources Minister C R Patil and legal counsel," he told reporters here.

When asked if top Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had invited him to Delhi, Shivakumar said, "I cannot disclose the names of all the people I will be meeting. Why are you so curious? I am not just the Deputy CM but also the state president of the Congress party. I will be completing six years as the president of the KPCC on March 10, and it is my duty to meet party MPs and other leaders."

"I regularly meet my party leaders and share my difficulties, sorrows, joys, and aspirations," Shivakumar added.

When asked about his Delhi visit, given that his department has pre-budget meetings scheduled, the DCM said he would seek Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's permission.

He noted that the Chief Minister is also the Chairman of the Irrigation department.

He said that the officials would meet Siddaramaiah regarding the Mekedatu balancing reservoir, which has been proposed on the Cauvery river at the border between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Shivakumar also said that he had ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team within the Revenue Department to investigate the planned looting of the irrigation department.

His visit comes amidst the power struggle involving him and Siddaramaiah, which has resurfaced.
