Gangtok, February 27: Sikkim Chief Secretary R Telang conducted a high-level review meeting with officials from the Railways and Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON) to assess the progress of the Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Project (SRRP).
During the meeting, Telang sought updates on the project’s timeline, infrastructure development, and key challenges. Railway and IRCON officials reported that the all-weather railway line, spanning 45 km from Sevoke to Rangpo, has achieved over 70% physical progress and is on track for completion by December 2027.
The SRRP is designed to support both passenger and freight trains, enhancing regional connectivity and trade efficiency. Officials confirmed that the Sevoke station yard has been completed, while a world-class station is planned for Rangpo, aligning with modern infrastructure standards.
Discussions also delved into the project's future expansion, with Phase 2 proposed to connect Rangpo to Gangtok and Phase 3 envisioned to extend from Gangtok to Nathula, a region of strategic significance.
Emphasizing the project’s importance, Telang urged officials to ensure timely execution, highlighting its potential to boost economic growth and tourism in the region.
