Gangtok, May 12 – Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, urging everyone to embrace the values of peace, compassion, and mutual respect.
Highlighting the spiritual significance of the day, Tamang reflected on Lord Buddha’s transformative journey—from Prince Siddhartha Gautama to an enduring global symbol of wisdom and non-violence. “Lord Buddha’s life continues to inspire humanity through his teachings of non-violence, compassion, and universal brotherhood,” the Chief Minister stated.
Calling upon citizens to emulate the principles laid down by Buddha, he said, “Let us walk the noble path shown by Lord Buddha and strive to build a society grounded in kindness and mutual respect.”
Buddha Purnima holds deep spiritual relevance across the country, particularly in Sikkim, where the 2011 census indicates that over 27 per cent of the population practices Buddhism. The day is marked with prayers, meditations, and celebrations across monasteries and households in the state.
