Gangtok, May 19 – Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Sunday inaugurated a newly-installed floodlight system at the Sikkim Cricket Ground in Mining, Rangpo, marking a significant step forward in the state's sports infrastructure.
The ceremony was also graced by Justice Biswanath Somadder, Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
"This facility has been developed with the support of the Sikkim government, whose continued commitment to infrastructure development and public welfare has made this initiative possible," the chief minister said, highlighting the administration’s dedication to nurturing sports in the Himalayan state.
Describing the development as a “new chapter for cricket in Sikkim,” Tamang expressed optimism that the upgraded facility would invigorate the state’s young cricketing talent and boost the sport’s popularity across districts.
An official from the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) stated that the floodlights will enable the ground to host day-night matches and extended training sessions, creating more opportunities for players and audiences alike.
To celebrate the occasion, an exhibition match was held with participation from state ministers, MLAs, and local dignitaries, adding a festive touch to the landmark event.
