Guwahati, Feb 26: Singapore High Commissioner Simon Wong lauded Assam’s infrastructure development efforts, emphasizing that governments must provide essential facilities to attract investors. He made these remarks during a session at the ongoing Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati.

Highlighting the state’s commitment to its past promises, Wong commended Assam for delivering on assurances made during the first edition of the summit seven years ago. While he did not specify any sector, he acknowledged that the state’s progress has been evident.

Addressing a session on road, railway, and waterways infrastructure, Wong remarked, "When I reviewed the commitments from Advantage Assam 1.0, I found that they have been fulfilled."

He also noted the impressive scale of the second edition of the summit, which has left a lasting impact on the visiting Singaporean delegation and the 61 foreign heads of missions and ambassadors attending the event.

Government’s Role in Infrastructure Development

Wong stressed that for investments to flow in, the onus lies on governments to develop the necessary infrastructure. He stated, "From a business perspective, infrastructure is key, and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure its availability for investors."

The Singapore envoy further praised Assam’s ambitious infrastructure plans, particularly in industrial development. Citing his visit to Tata’s upcoming semiconductor unit at Jagiroad, he pointed out that robust road, railway, and air connectivity to the site would help Assam achieve its goal of becoming a semiconductor assembling hub.

Additionally, he highlighted the potential of the Jogighopa multi-modal logistics park, with its strategic connectivity to Gelephu in Bhutan and Chittagong port in Bangladesh, as a future industrial hotspot.

Wong expressed confidence in Assam’s industrial vision, affirming, "The state has significant plans in the sector, and we believe it will successfully meet its expectations from this summit."
