Colombo, May 11 — In a commanding all-round performance, India defeated Sri Lanka by 97 runs to win the Women’s Tri-Nation ODI Series title on Sunday, thanks to a stellar century from vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and a clinical bowling effort led by Amanjot Kaur and Sneh Rana.
Mandhana's Masterclass Anchors India’s Innings
Smriti Mandhana delivered a sublime knock, scoring her 11th ODI century with a fluent 116 off just 101 balls. Her innings, studded with 15 boundaries and two sixes, laid a strong foundation for India’s innings. Supported by consistent contributions from the rest of the top and middle order, India posted an imposing total of 342 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs.
Harleen Deol added a valuable 47 runs, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur chipped in with 41. Jemimah Rodrigues played a brisk innings of 44, ensuring the scoring momentum stayed high throughout.
For Sri Lanka, bowlers Sugandika Kumari (2/59), Dewmi Vihanga (2/69), and Malki Madara (2/74) shared the wickets but were unable to contain the Indian batting line-up.
Sri Lanka Falters in Chase Despite Promising Starts
Chasing a daunting target, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 245 in 48.2 overs. Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the resistance with a composed 51, while Nilakshika Silva contributed 48. Vishmi Gunaratne also made a handy 36, but their efforts were not enough to mount a serious challenge.
Sneh Rana proved decisive with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for 38 runs, while pacer Amanjot Kaur delivered a strong spell, claiming 3 for 54. Their combined efforts dismantled Sri Lanka’s middle and lower order, sealing a dominant win for India.
