Under the agreement, Tata Motors and the Naam Foundation will collaborate with the state department to construct 1,000 water reservoirs across 23 districts, an official confirmed. Another pact was inked between the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana and the Soil and Water Conservation Department to provide manpower for water conservation projects. Additionally, the Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre entered into an agreement with the department to deploy advanced technology for the creation of these reservoirs.
Speaking on the initiative, veteran actor and social activist Nana Patekar emphasized the importance of community participation in water conservation. "Our goal is to implement community-driven conservation efforts and replicate these across villages in Maharashtra. The people are actively engaged in this mission. This work started during Fadnavis' tenure, continued under (Eknath) Shinde, and now resumes under Fadnavis again—ensuring no obstacles hinder progress," he stated.
Actor and Naam Foundation co-founder Makarand Anaspure highlighted the foundation's decade-long commitment to water conservation. "Naam Foundation is completing 10 years, and in the past nine years, we have impacted over 1,000 villages. This year, we are expanding our reach to 23 districts and encourage greater public participation. This movement is by the people, for the people, and the government’s support has been commendable," he added.
This large-scale initiative underscores Maharashtra’s commitment to tackling water scarcity and promoting sustainable conservation practices across the state.
